- Terrorist Warnings. The FBI's most wanted terrorists list is on-line here.
- Santa Claus and the 2004 Election. The following maps of the 48 continental states reflect the 2004 election results by state, first by who won the state (red for George W. Bush, blue for John F. Kerry) and then by the degree to which Bush or Kerry won the respective state (the brighter the color, the greater the margin of victory for the winner).
- Weekend Update.
- Kerik Nomination. Former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik was nominated to be the second Secretary of Homeland Security on Dec. 3 and withdrew his nomination on Dec. 10 amidst concerns about the immigration status of a nanny he had employed, whether he had the managerial experience to run a Cabinet-level department, and whether he had ethical conflicts of interest due to his involvement with a company that did business with the Department of Homeland Security.
- Lincoln's Sexuality. According to reports, C.A. Tripp's forthcoming book, "The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln," argues that Lincoln had a homosexual relationship with a bodyguard, David V. Derickson. Others have argued that Tripp has misinterpreted that relationship. Lincoln had a reportedly difficult marriage with Mary Todd Lincoln, with whom he had four children.
- Leviticus. The Book of Leviticus is probably best known today as the book of the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament that contains specific prohibitions against homosexual acts. Specifically, Leviticus 18:22 states that "you shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is a abomination" and Leviticus 20:13 states that "if a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them."
While some people have cited Leviticus as proof that homosexuality is wrong, others cite other passages to make a broader argument that laws must be seen in the context of the society that created them, and those laws that may have been appropriate to the fragile order the Israelites were trying to preserve are not necessarily transferable or applicable to any other society.
For example, Leviticus also threatens destruction on anyone working on a day of atonement, orders people not to wear a cloth made of more than one material, and chapter 27 sets out the valuation of persons when offered to the Lord: men aged 20-60 are worth 50 shekels of silver, females 20-60 are worth 30, males 5-20 are worth 20, and females worth 10. Infant males are worth five shekels, females three.
